Man Cancer Foundation was born from a personal battle — a survivor's mission to make sure no man faces cancer without the information, support, and community he deserves.
"I noticed a small bump on my left throat. I thought it was allergies from my woodworking. I kept working. I kept ignoring it. That's what a lot of us do."
In 2020, I noticed a small bump on the left side of my throat. I didn't think much of it at first — I'm a woodworker, and I figured it was allergies from the sawdust and shop air I'd been breathing for years. I kept working. I kept ignoring it. That's what a lot of us do.
When I finally went to the doctor, the diagnosis hit hard: cancer. Head and neck cancer — the kind that doesn't get talked about nearly enough. What followed was one of the most brutal stretches of my life. Over 30 radiation treatments. Four rounds of chemotherapy. A feeding tube just to keep my body going when swallowing became impossible.
There were days I didn't know if I had the strength to keep going. But I did. I fought through every treatment, every side effect, every moment of doubt. And I made it. I have been in remission ever since.
Here's what I learned on the other side: too many men don't catch it early because they don't know what to look for. They brush off the signs — a lump, a persistent sore throat, hoarseness that won't go away — just like I almost did. They tough it out. They wait. And sometimes, waiting costs them everything.
That's why I built Man Cancer Foundation. Not as a statistic or a fundraising campaign — but as a real resource, built by a man who sat in that chair, wore that hospital gown, and came out the other side with a purpose. MCF exists so that the next man who notices something unusual doesn't wait. So he has somewhere to turn. So he knows he is not alone.
This foundation is personal to me in every way. Head and neck cancer changed my life — and now I'm using that experience to change the conversation around men's cancer. We are just getting started, and I am all in.
